Established in 1960, American Fence Erectors, Inc. was founded by Joseph Dekkinga. After working many years at the Haven-Busch plant in Grandville, MI, which manufactured "Page brand" chain link fence fabric, Joe went out on his own; installing the very fence that his previous employer had produced. American Fence Erectors gained a reputation for hard work and quality installations. Through the years American Fence Erectors developed long standing relationships with many commercial and residential clientele alike.
Fast forward to 1990, Mr. Dekkinga, who was ready for retirement by this time, met with a local businessman named Doug Cook who was looking for a new challenge. A deal was struck and American Fence Erectors, Inc. was now under Doug's guidance. Through his principles and leadership, American Fence Erectors continued to carry on the tradition of trustworthy, top notch customer service and unwavering commitment to quality materials and installation. One of Doug's mantras was that "If you don't have time to do it right in the first place, when are you going to find time to do it over again!" With this mentality American Fence Erectors progressed forward, existing customers remained pleased, old fashioned word of mouth referral advertising garnered new customers, and equipment was upgraded to more efficiently service the customers.
During this same time, Doug's son Brian, began working in the shop on weekends and during the summer months while in high school and college. Over the years he had worked his way up through the ranks, learning the value of hard work and dedication from his father's proven principles, which in turn led to them becoming partners in the family business together.
